• Use Sketching Pencil 2H and the finished drawing from Step 5, or you can use a photo of a cactus for this project.
• Sketch the basic shapes of the cactus. Look closely and you will see round and triangle shapes. Refer to the enclosed drawing with geometric shapes.
• Use Sketching Pencil 2H and sketch the cactus by connecting the shapes of the circles and triangles.
• Complete by sketching the small fruits at the top of the cactus pads.
• Use crosshatching to add detail and shadows to the cactus.
• Decide where the light is coming from. This will tell you where the shadows should be sketched. The illuminated side will be lighter, and the opposite side will be darker.
• Start crosshatching where you see the light colors of the Cactus.
• Use the Sketching Pencil 2B and the crosshatching technique to create the last dark areas. Maintain consistency by drawing the entire cactus in the same seating. Take look at your drawing from a distance. Squint your eyes, are there any places where you want to add more crosshatching?
• Draw all the spines with a sharp Sketching Pencil 2B.
• You decide when your sketch is finished. This is a drawing with a light appearance, if you want it darker, continue working with your Sketching Pencils and the crosshatching technique!
